The odds of me ever making it big.

When I was 15, I dreamed about making it big.
I went to art school and saw one by one of my schoolmates
hunt of to Paris or London to pursue the path they had;
they where going to make it big.
Sure, some did.

The cute boy 2 grades above me cut off his long hair and I was devastated;
he was like Simpson, hairless with a failing aura. Of course, in this case,
the hair had the opposite effect; their band had the corny name “Cardigans”.

As the years passed by, I realized that though I might have had people around
me that made it big the same odds didn’t apply to me, mainly because I couldn’t sing, nor act.

Illustrators just don’t get famous like rock stars.

A couple of years ago I met a wonderful bloke who became my boyfriend.
He can’t sing nor act either,
It doesn’t stop him from trying karaoke though.
Together we moved into a 2 room, expensive as god knows what,
apartment in central Gothenburg. He had one cat and I had 2.
It was at that point I started to suspect something:

The laws of universe don’t apply to everyone.

They certainly don’t apply to my cats.
These are the most amazing creatures which I got from a shelter.
Someone found them in a plastic bag in Malmö harbor.
One of them, at a later point, survived a fall from the 7th floor
with only a limp that wore of in a couple of weeks.
The other one managed to wait until I was breaking up from what I thought
was a shag friend, (apparently he thought more of it) and when he had gotten the
"Its not you, it’s me” line she peed on his jacket.

Yesterday, my cat managed to barf in both my shoes which were standing pretty
far apart in the hallway. As I was cleaning out a disgusting, half-my-foot long
hairball out of one of my shoes I started to think about the Odds of Nature.
The chances of me making it are probably a million to one,
but the chances of ending up with barf in both my shoes are far higher.
I wonder if fluke is something handed out at birth, some are bound to find
million dollar diamonds when they visit diamond mines.
Some just don’t get any happy accidents at all?

Apparently I’m one of them who wasn’t handed out a buckload of fluke points at birth,
so I just have to pull myself together and work for it I guess.

The laws of universe apply to me and that is somehow, a pretty comforting thought.

I have finally done it, a potrait of Sean Bean.
http://www.bobified.com/malin/portfolio/illustrationpics/portraits/bean_closeup.jpg
2 down, a whole cast to go.
Either Liv or Viggo is up next.

I like Sean Bean, he's so damn good at being the failing human.
And after all, even though we are a pretty pathetic species,
humans can amaze me sometimes.

Oh, and siggraph, I think I have talked my boyfriend into going there, it will be a blast if we do :)

Hi there!
Nice to see you dropping by!
Has anything fun happened to you today?
An event, big or small? Did you become a parent
or was your favourite sitcom hilarious today?

Have you thought about all those little things
that make life worth living?
The things you barely notice, are proabably also
the things you´ll miss while being stuck in the middle
of nowhere working on a job thats so boring you might
think that belsebub himself assigned it to you.

The small things like seeing the face, or the hairy butt,
of the person you love when you wake up in the morning.
Or the neighbours kid who´s always crying hysterically
in the hallway at 7 o´clock in the morning.
You won´t miss him untill he´s gone and you are too late
for what ever appointement you had at 8.

So, heres my little list of the small things
in life worth doing just for the sake of it.

1. Walk in the grass barefooted.
2. Spend an afternoon in the couch drinking tea and listning to vinyl records.
3. Have a singeldate with a realy nice meal. MEAT and GARLIC.
Invite Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen and Philip Glass "Einstein on the beach"
4. Go visit mom, drink loads of coffie and go through the photoalbums.
5. Close your eyes and look at the sun.
6. Stay up all night and play CS, then watch the world when it
wakes up outside your window.
7. Call an old friend, whos been out of your life for ages, just to say hi.
8. Smile to the first person you meet after leaving your house.
9. Write a little loveletter.
10. Mail me with suggestions on what should make it onto "the little list of things that are wonderful in life.":)
